Walking Your Dog

A recent survey by Pet Insurance shows nearly a quarter of British dog owners never walk their pet! 10% can't be bothered and 15% are put off by the bad weather! Those that do walk their dogs, 25% argue amongst the family over whose turn it is, 6% regularly employ a dog walker and 5% have used walking their dog as cover for carrying out an affair! Exercise is important - for both you and your dog.

Whatever next...!!!

Pet owners are seeking the services of Brazilian vet Dr Edgard Brito to carry out plastic surgery! Dr Brito who has done silicone implants, facelifts and even breast reductions on dogs said "Man lives for beauty, so it's natural he seeks the same for his pets".

Don't feed your dog chocolate!!

Never give your dog chocolate for humans; cadburys, galaxy etc. One bar can contain enough toxins to kill them!! Chocolate contains a chemical called theobromine which is harmless to humans but can prove fatal for canines. Theobromine is essentially a stimulant and has a powerful effect on the dog's body; the heart rate increases, the rise in blood pressure has a secondary effect on their organs including the brain. Symptoms to look out for are; vomit containing blood, excessive thirst, a sore tummy, drooling, excitability, slow heart rate and in later stages, epileptic type fits. If you notice any of these symptoms in your pooch take them to a vet immediately. If caught early enough the poisoning can be treated. So that your dog doesn't miss out on a lovely treat visit your local pet shop where you can buy chocolate treats that are specifically made for dogs and which are theobromine free.

Fleas

Recommended treatments by vets are Frontline and Stronghold which can be purchased from vets or pet shops. Don't forget though that fleas will live on in your home so don't just treat your pet, treat your home too!
